Cup O' Kids, and Other Thoughts...

Ode to the Coffee Maven of the NoPoMoCo, who generously keeps the brew flowin' week after week, opening up her home so we can compare sleep-deprivation stories over the din of our sweet little linoleum lizards. Thanks, Lisa!

Sometimes I try to paint for fun (or, let's keep it real here, for money) and I suddenly draw a blank; nothing I can force into my noggin can be communicated to my hand. I think this might be because my actual gifting is appreciation and encouragement, with any artistic talent being merely fortuitous. Or perhaps, because I am too cheap to buy cards in the store, and too busy to search for just the right one... necessity will reign as the mother of invention.

Unfortunately, money has never been a huge motivator for me. Hmm. Unless I'm drawing money. Maybe I'll do that. Would you buy a card with a money illustration on it?

And I'll have to work on visualizing general situations worthy of appreciation and encouragement. It's so easy when a specific person and my experiences with that person are inspiring me.

What about you? What do you want a card to convey that you have never seen in a store? What memory is tucked away in your hippocampus that you'd like to remind your best friend about? What do you love most about your kid/teacher/boss/mom?

oh, oh, I know... a valentines card for a little boy that doesn't come in a pack with 29 other little spidermans staring at you that you don't need, or doesn't say "Grandson" all over it!!

Wendy, you are ridiculously talented. Seriously.
I think your stuff is super sellable. You should toss up some sets of valentines cards TODAY on Etsy..... I bet they would sell.

i second michelle.

i really liked the lanterns you did a while ago.

just paint what you see, or what holds your attention.

they will totally sell.

Thanks, you guys! Jen, I'm on it! And Michelle, that'd be a great idea if I didn't have to [help] pump out close to 100 Valentines for school tomorrow! Ack!

Wendy..... that actually leaves you in a perfect position. Just take photos of the cards you make for school and then post the pics on Etsy with the caveat that the cards are all one of a kind and will be similar to the ones pictured.
Then when you get the order you can just bust them out. You should totally do it.

Agreed with all of the above cuz, use that talent! Motivate the rest of us who don't ... ;o)

The kids have set me straight: I thought Valentine's Day was THIS weekend! It's NEXT weekend! Phew! Hmmm...maybe I *will* bust out some extra cards...

I have to admit that when i think of laughing with highschool friends, the soda out the nose makes my day. It was something so funny or so true that it just happened. not shure how that would look on a card, but needed to share on this cold rainy day and have the corners of my mouth upturn into the start of a smile. You are a great artist and thank you for sharing!

My narcissism tells me that the little girl with the piggie tails and the huge open mouth in the coffee cup is my Holly at NoPoMoCo. Am I right? Your watercolor expressions are wonderful--full of joy and emotion and movement. Hit up Powells.

Kristen, I have to admit, your kids surely inspired me: the boys on the ends are based on Jonathan, before and after buzzcut :)
